India Blue Peafowl

The Sandalwood Suites Toronto Airport Hotel are proud to have had peacocks in our courtyard garden. All the birds we have had in the past are India Blue Peafowl, a social, gentle breed of bird that is kept in captivity by people across North America and around the world. In the spring, the male peacock displays his gorgeous tail feathers. The female peahen lacks bright coloration, which helps conceal her from predators. The peacocks' diet includes mixed grains, game bird crumbles and a variety of greens. These birds can live to be 40 years old and are among the easiest birds to raise.

Peacock feathers are popularly used in unique crafts and decorations. At the end of the season, the associates at the Sandalwood Suites Hotel Toronto Airport collect the male's fallen feathers to create beautiful pieces of art and display them in the hotel lobby for guests and associates to admire.
